DESCRIPTION

4 Images of Corkscrews in Use - 3 Photos, 1 Trade Card

Left to right, top to botom (in first photo):

1.  Small 19th century trade card depicting a smiling black waiter opening a bottle of wine with a simple T corkscrew.  Measures 1 7/8 X 3 1/4 inches.  The corners are trimmed.  The backside is blank.  Marked near the bottom of the image by the printer:

"Eng. by John A. Lowell & Co.
Boston, U.S.A.
F"

Condition:  7/10.

2.  Cabinet photo (silver gelatin print on board) of a picnic scene with one man, 7 women and a dog (between the two women sitting at the right).  Circa 1890s.  The woman sitting at the left, and the man are both using corkscrews to open bottles of wine.

Measures 5 3/8 X 6 3/8 inches.

Condition:  9/10.

3.  Small tintype photo of 3 men in a humorous pose.  The man on the right is opening a bottle with a corkscrew (2 tool harp including a Champagne blade), while the man is the center is holding the bottle with both hands.

Condition:  8/10.

4.  Cabinet photo of 4 gamblers drinking and playing cards, circa 1890.  One bottle on the table has a corkscrew inserted in the cork.  The corkscrew appears to be Edward Haff's 1885 U.S. patent.

The mounting board has a few stains, and a pin hole near the top edge, but the photo is in good shape.  Hand written on the back:

"For L. D. Kirk
