This is the original corkscrew shown in Mechanical Corkscrews . Figure 386. The oldest version. A vertical slot connects the upper and lower ends of the spiral groove (a replacement for the male thread of the hermaphrodite shaft). The groove and slot engage a fixed pin in the shoulder of the frame. When the cork has been raised to the limit of the spiral, the frame can slide back along the vertical sleeve to the initial position. Manufactured by Louis Kummer of Zella St. Bl. and shown in Kürschner's catalogue about 1890.
