Registered Sailor + Lifebelt Figural Corkscrew 1958
Amusing two part figural corkscrew of a jolly sailor holding on to his lifebelt. It is made of painted steel. The T corkscrew has the sailor’s head wearing a flat sailor’s hat, with a brown face and red highlighted mouth, nose, cheeks and ears. The corkscrew fits into clip at the back of a heavy free standing frame which shows the rest of his body, dressed in a white sailor’s uniform with baggy trousers. He is holding a white lifebelt with gold rope trimmings.
The back of the corkscrew is marked “Reg No 887319”. The back of the frame is marked “Reg No 887318 887319”. This is for the 1958 British Registered Design of Paul Gladman, Birmingham, for a “combined mantel ornament and bottle opener”. (887318 is the same design but for a caplifter). 11.6 cms tall.

Condition - Very good, slight loss of paint on the edge of trousers and hat, some discoloration on the back of the frame, base is slightly rusty, worm is intact.
