DESCRIPTION
This is the rare second Dickson patent - US Patent 115,585, Walter Dickson, 06 Jun 1871 for a heavy cast corkscrew with an internal ratchet.
It is much rarer than Dickson's first patent - US Patent 106,036, Walter Dickson, 02 Aug 1870 - which is itself - rare.
Both pieces have large cast handles with internal ratchets - the 1870 patent has an attached ice/wire breaker - while the 1871 patent has a redesigned attached screw driver/wire breaker.
The redesigned tool is much more fragile - which is probably why this later version is so rare.
It is marked W.DICKSON and PAT AUG 2 1870 on handle (from the first patent and a bit hard to read) -- there is a partial marking left on the attachment .....71.

Very Good Condition - the ratchet works and the handle is in good shape - the attachment is pitted.
