Thomason – Badge for Cope & Cutler– Super condition
Sir Edward Thomason was granted a patent 1802 for a type of mechanical corkscrew. The mechanism was clever and the new corkscrews operated by turning the handle clockwise to extract the cork. There are a number of Thomason corkscrew designs known.
Thomason models were produced until 1900. Thus, a number of additional manufacturers mass produced the very same model as Sir Edward did. Some of these badges are extremely difficult to get hold of.
The copycat Badges were all of different quality by means of the weight of the barrel and the crispness and quality of the actual badge and handle. The Cope & Cutler badge is quite rare.
The Cope & Cutler does not often hit the marketplace. The item is in super condition. Tip, barrel and mechanism is fine. No dents to the barrel. There is a small piece missing at the end of the handle. However it does not affect the quality of the piece. All in all - Super !
