A scarce example of a David Field silver-pocket corkscrew. It has a fluted sheath and mother-of-pearl handle with two reeded silver rings on each side and knurled rings on each end:a total of six in all. Field worked in London from 1727-70. His mark (DF in script) is struck on the base but there is also another mark struck on the sheath that I can't identify. The corkscrew may have been sold abroad and this might be an import or guarantee mark. Watney and Babbidge show four corkscrews by "'DF' in script" in color plate VII (across from p.40) of their 1981 book, Corkscrews for Collectors --at the time their book was published Field's mark had not been identified. Length: 27/8" or 7.5 cm.
Overall very good.
