Very nice example of Wier’s Double Compound Lever. Plenty of the original bronzed finish and is marked on both sides “Double No 4283”, “Wier’s Patent” and “J*H*S B”. This is for the 1884 British Patent of Marshall Arthur Wier, Upper Norwood. J*H*S B refers to James Heeley and Sons, Birmingham, the manufacturers, and No 4283 is the model number. The worm is fixed as it should be and does not slide, a fault as many do.
See Ellis & Ellis – Corkscrews page 121 and Wallis – British Corkscrew Patents page 100.
Condition is very good. Small very old chip to handle (see photo).
