DESCRIPTION

For the advanced U.S.collector--very nice example of Brown's 1895 mechanical frame corkscrew with adjustable cork  penetration....

ScrewCode*MCf060: Nickel plated steel frame with lead handle and bladed worm. This patent allows for adjusting the penetration of the screw into the corks by pushing the button at the top to release the turning shaft from the worm and the button stops at the handle. No markings and length is 6.0". Satis. guaranteed.

OPERATION: This piece operates as all other crab piece designs with the added feature of a spring loaded inner shaft with cross pin that disengages during cork drawing, allowing the outer threaded shaft to turn without turning the worm.

The frame is placed on top of the bottle with the point of the worm resting on the cork. The crab piece is lowered on the threaded shaft to the point where the distance to the neck of the frame equals the desired depth of penetration. By turning of the handle, the corkscrew is screwed into the cork, the whole of the device with the exception of the frame moving downward. As soon as the crab piece engages the collar, the continuing turning compresses the internal spring forcing the pin out of the socket, and enabling the outer shaft to turn independently of the corkscrew. The opposite threading of the crab piece now causes the device as a whole, with the exception of the frame, to rise with continuous clockwise turning, pulling out the cork.
