One of the rarest of U.S. corkscrew designs is the Hicks & Reynolds "folding handle" corkscrew.....

ScrewCode* SLc110: Hicks & Reynolds self pulling corkscrew with  Folding Handle, bell and sturdy wire helix. Believed to be part of the T. Curley family and differs in that the slot is in the shank (not visible) rather than on the bell, hence the extra thickness of the shank. No markings, open length is 7.5".

OPERATION:  Begins with the worm extended and frame fully up.  Clockwise turning inserts worm (entire piece rotates).  When frame/bell reaches bottle - further clockwise turning causes the right hand threaded wire shank/shaft to rise and pull cork.

N.B--per F. O'Leary's "Corkscrews" book, page 66.....more details on the relationship with the T. Curley family and the fact that no patent has been found ...."Similar in operation and appearance to Curley except slot is in shank instead of bell".  Hence thicker shank.  See Joe Young article, 1988.                  N.B.-2 This corkscrew was discovered in Middlebury, VT. in 1989 and not far from the T. Curley Co.  located in Troy, N.Y.

Please check this auction's "past sales" section for "Hicks & Reynolds"--no sales of this folding bow corkscrew in the past 20 auctions.
