DESCRIPTION
Superb Cockshaw Sterling Roundlet–Gilded Helix
This sterling silver roundlet has a superbly chased casing with legible monogram and fine, gilded helix. The engraved monogram are the letters “EC” with the lower case letters “de” being engraved inside the lower part of the “E”.
This fine piece was made by the Howard & Cockshaw of New York, NY. Though the firm was well known it does not appear to have been a prolific maker of corkscrews, as this is the only example I have even run across, and none others have been sold in past auctions. This example bears the firm’s trademark of an eight pointed star (see photo).
Howard & Cockshaw was in business 1886-1912 with Herbert Cockshaw taking over the firm in 1912. Herbert Cockshaw Jr. continued the business till about 1936. The same mark was
used throughout those years.
I consider this example to be in excellent to near mint condition.
