Ellis Collection - Swiss 1943 Patent Sheath Corkscrew with Spring
Unusual 2 part polished steel pocket corkscrew consisting of a separate Archimedean worm with a small rounded plug handle. This fits into an open sided steel tube sheath with a coiled spring at the bottom end. This grips the worm and stops it falling out.
The worm is unscrewed from the spring, fitted into the open side of the sheath and forced into a cut-out in a collar over the sheath. The collar is rotated to lock the worm in place.
This is an unmarked example of the 1943 Swiss Patent of Andre Burkhalter, Corcelles, which only relates to the process of manufacturing the Archimedean worm.
Interesting example of Swiss engineering. It comes with an original piece of wrapping paper. 9 cms closed.
See Peters & Giulian – Pocket Corkscrews – page 159.
Condition – Very good, slight corrosion on one part of collar, worm is intact, spring is tight, mechanism works OK

Payment Details: | Paypal, Bank Transfer or UK Check. Seller would appreciate if items over 500 GB pounds value could be paid by Bank Transfer and not Paypal. This is due to major problems experienced previously with Paypal, plus their very high fees. Bank details will be sent on request. |
