DESCRIPTION
Impressive, Handsome Silver Mounted Walrus Tusk
An interesting piece! The exact origin of this tusk is unclear, but is almost certainly walrus rather then the traditional wart hog variety. Regardless, this piece has always been one of my favorites because of its simple, handsome design. The coloration of the ivory, the simple, clean lines of the silver mounts and the decorative diamond shank add up to a quite distinctive piece.
I consider this piece to be in virtual mint condition. There are no dings, dents or damage to the silver mounts, and the plating on the decorative diamond shank and bladed helix is bright and 100% intact. The piece is marked “sterling”, but no maker’s mark. If you are looking for an unusual, interesting and impressive silver mounted ivory piece for your collection, it would be difficult to find a better specimen.
