This corkscrew with ball-bearing assist is a puzzler. At a quick glance one would think it was Menz’s 1934 DRGM (see Peters’ MECHANICAL CORKSCREWS, 1999: 103) but upon more careful examination it becomes apparent that it lacks the locking device and never had one--see fourth image for comparison and note that frames are virtually identical. The numbers on the shank “38/280/5116” are also hard to make sense of. I suspect that someone out there will know more about this corkscrew and if so I hope he/she shares this information with me. Very tip of worm bent: see third image.
