Ellis Collection - 2 Pillar Coney Patent 1854 Hidden Clutch
Classic English two pillar steel frame corkscrew with an enclosed Coney Patent clutch mechanism. The shaft has a wide right hand thread.
The handle is turned bone with an end cap, but missing its brush.
This is an unmarked example of the 1854 British Patent of John Coney, Birmingham. 21.5 cms
See Ellis – Corkscrews – page 146, Wallis – British Corkscrew Patents – page 31, Peters - Mechanical Corkscrews – page 119.
Condition – Very good, nice dark patina steel, some rust and pitting, bone handle has dark ingrained dirt marks and a crack on each side, brush is missing, worm is missing its very end tip. Mechanism works OK.

Seller accepts PayPal payments | |
Payment Details: | Paypal, Bank Transfer or UK Check. Seller would appreciate if items over 500 pounds value could be paid by Bank Transfer and not Paypal. This is due to major problems experienced previously with Paypal, plus their very high fees. Bank details will be sent on request. |
