German Corkscrew, DRGM 181644 marked ARCHIMEDES, Ferd Herbertz, 08 Jul 1902
The star-wheels are good and rotate freely. It is marked with "Archimedes" and the DRGM number, This is an extremely rare corkscrew, but never seen with a wooden handle.
The handle is prehaps a replacement!
Small pièce : 12 x 8 cm and weight 93 gramme
This "Archimedes" corkscrew was registered in Germany by Ferd Herbertz of Solingen in July, 1902. The design incorporated two small "star" shaped wheels on the inside of each arm of the frame. These were placed so they would hold the cork to prevent it from turning as it was withdrawn from the bottle.
I consider this rare piece is original and fully functional including the shank spring and star-wheels which rotate freely and in very good condition.
