This very nice example is marked on the handle with the date on which Tucker received the US patent for his corkscrew: "PAT'D SEP. 3, 1878". I have recently learned that the spring on the Tucker came in at least two versions: two-leaf and three leaf. There are rumours of a four-leaf version but I've never seen one. The two-leaf is clearly shown on the cover of Fred O'Leary's book; the three-leaf can be seen in Ferd Peters MECHANICAL CORKSCREWS book (page 166, fig. 519). This is the two-leaf version. Which one is earlier or scarcer? I simply don't know.
While it is unplated it is in very good condition noting an odd notch on the neck rest--see images.
