Rosewood handle (small wood loss beside/under band area on marked side) with a bright nickel plated brass slotted bell and slot screw affixed steel end caps with handle band marked (not that clearly)PAT. APR 22 4 T CURLEY TROY. N Y fitted with a perfect centre point bladed web helix. Thomas Curley, Troy, New York was granted U.S. Patent No. 297,232 April 22, 1884 for the slotted bell Ref Corkscrews Fred O'Leary (1996) p 66 (also similarly not marked clearly) and later Canadian Patent No 21,460 on April 20, 1885 Ref Canadian Corkscrew Patents Ron MacLean (1985) Curley's Corkscrew p6
