An extremely rare french mechanical corkscrew, manufactured by Jacques Perille clearly marked 'express jhp paris & 24th November, 1896'
Mechanically this is a very clever corkscrew. It looks beautiful and is in very good condition. It has a triple leaf spring on top of the winding shaft that locks the frame, shaft and handle together after which the whole item is turned entering the cork. When the neck ring and button reach the top of the bottle, pressure causes the triple leaf spring to disengage from the frame enabling the user to continue turning the handle and thus withdrawing the cork.
The corkscrew is nickel plated and has an elegant bone handle 95% of nickel plating remains. The worm is full and sharp. This would make a super corkscrew for any serious collector.
This corkscrew is thought to be a French regd design. See mechanical corkscrews by Ferd Peters page 125 and 126
